What’s New in the PerfectAdmin Remote Support?

I was writing a test for a storage lab and ran into a problem. One of the storage arrays was failing to boot properly. Like all other array disks in the test lab, it has an identical partition layout that also failed to boot.
I booted into a Windows 7 PC and ran HxD (Hardware Information Dissector), and from the drive information I determined that the array was supposed to have 3 partitions:

partition 1: 512MB EFI system partition

partition 2: 736MB Windows recovery partition

partition 3: 1GB Windows boot partition

I know that HxD displays the partition layout by using the Serial ATA (SATA) signature for the EFI system partition. I also know that the array software creates the recovery partition on top of the Windows boot partition.
I was able to boot the storage array into a Windows 7 PC using PXE boot. I loaded the recovery partition’s partition table and checked the partition layout. It looks identical to the one I created on my PC.

1. At the bottom of the screen, click Save and Logout.
2. Logoff
3. Choose the Advanced tab.
4. Scroll down to the end of the page, and click View Logfile.
5. Click Save
6. When the screen for the logfile opens, click Edit.
7. Click Edit on the far right side of the screen.
8. Navigate to the file you saved in step 2.
9. Click Open.
10. Click Exit.

The logfile listed under Launch Data was quite different from the one we created on the computer. The logfile contains the “Startup Information” and a scan log of the drive.

My storage lab was probably putting incorrect information into the startup disk setting section. I was getting this specific error:

“The following key is not present on the startup disk. The Startup Disk Manager needs this key to write to the specified disk.

I was able to use a drive with similar configuration as the problem drive to resolve the issue. In case someone has the same issue, I was able to successfully get rid of the error messages by editing the startup disk entry. This might be the cause why the problem array failed to boot.
